From skirt to dress

From skirt to dress
This was a Luisa Spagnoli vintage plissè skirt made of fine knit,
that once belonged to my great-aunt.
I decided to transform it into a dress by adding a black lace upper bodice.

First steps

Primi passi

Mi piace moltissimo il taffetà, così come tutti i tessuti che permettono di creare volume e che abbiano una loro struttura. Inoltre il taffetà ha un rapporto con la luce tutto suo;

Before this I used to remake or transform old clothes. I had never made clothes entirely by myself, starting from the creation of the pattern. So it was really an unforgettable experience.
As you see it's a gray taffeta balloon skirt
I love taffeta as any other fabric that can help create volume and has a structure.
It also has a "special relationship" with light,
but I have to say I prefer it in dark colours,
while pastel or bright colors should be "treated with care", in my opinion.
It's a very nice fabric to work with, and won't give you troubles. Generally it won't let you down.

This picture was taken last year, I used it for my final book at school, but I made this skirt some four years ago, I think.
I had no idea about what to expect from the future back then.

This is where I live

Recently, Beppe Severgnini has written an article in which he defines Trieste as "the northern's south, the suthern's north, the eastern's west, and the western's east".This is why I love it. It's a city that resembles me. Everyday it has to deal with it's identity, made of different languages, cultures and religions. This is not where I was born, but 50% (more or less) of my genealogic tree sinks its roots here.
