Un po' di verde per attirare la buona fortuna!!!

Nonostante il caldo torrido di queste giornate

continuo a cucire ☺

(la parte più dura è stata il ferro da stiro però...!)

Sto cucendo dei top "per-la-mammina" molto carini che vedrete...

Questi ultimi mesi sono stati piuttosto difficili per me, 

ma è in momenti come questi che mi rendo conto 

quanto sia importante coltivare una passione.

Cucire mi riporta nella realtà,

mi fa andare avanti nonostante tutto

e mi costringe a concentrarmi sul momento presente.

3 cose da imparare niente male.

but I've realized how important it is

Dressmaking brings me back to reality,

it keeps me going forward no matter what

and helps me to be focused in the present moment.

Foulard dress

Facendo ordine in una scatola di vecchi vestiti 

ho trovato questo foulard di pura seta.

Non ricordo di quale nonnina o zia fosse 

e volevo buttarlo perché era vecchio e ingiallito.

Ma mi piacevano la fantasia e il tessuto.

Ho deciso di lavarlo e le macchie sono andate via...

Dopo averlo fissato per un po' ho capito che poteva solo diventare...

un vestito!

Riflessioni di un pomeriggio piovoso...

Oggi mi è tornata in mente questa massima che conosco da quando ero una ragazzina.

E' un'ovvietà ma vedo sempre più persone dimenticare il vero significato dei rapporti umani.
Se possiamo dobbiamo dire chiaramente e con forza NO alle logiche utilitaristiche nei rapporti.
Sta pian piano diventando una "cosa normale" per la società.


e ho anche deciso che il termine di oggi è    prosaico
[Fin da bambina ho sempre adorato i vocabolari e ho speso ore infinite a leggerli]

Reflections on a rainy late spring's afternoon...

Today I've got this quote on my mind. 

I read it when I was a girl, and it's been in my head since then...

It sounds like a commonplace, but lately I have seen many people misunderstanding the real meaning of relationships.

We should always say NO to utilitarism in relationships everytime we can.

It has been slowly turning into a "normal thing" for society.

I've decided that today's word is prosaism/prosaicism

[I fell in love with dictionaries when I was a child and have spent millions of hours reading them]

Marbled blouse - Camicetta marmorizzata

Ho comprato questa camicia al mercatino tempo fa. Era molto antiquata, 

ma mi aveva colpito la particolarità del tessuto, non potevo lasciarla lì...

L'ho girata col davanti verso il dietro,

ho tagliato via le maniche, 

applicato un elastico nel giromanica

e modificato l'abbottonatura in basso.

I found this blouse at the flea market some time ago.

It was very old fashioned 

but I fell in love with the fabric it was made of  so I had to buy it.

I turned the front into the back,

I cut off the sleeves,

applied a rubber band in the armholes

and modified the lower part of the button placket.

Non mi stancherò mai di insistere sulla bellezza e la qualità dei tessuti di una volta.

Oggi compriamo abiti fatti spesso con materiali e coloranti tossici, 

o che durano pochissimo e che hanno una qualità scadente,   

mentre buttiamo via capi fatti con stoffe meravigliose, 

solo perché la linea è antiquata o non è più di moda.

Questa fantasia di tessuto mi ha fatto pensare subito 

alla marmorizzazione o paper marbling, 

tecnica che tutti conosciamo e che è stata praticata da diversi popoli fin dall'antichità 

(antichi romani, cinesi, 

in indiani, giapponesi, persiani e turchi.

E ripresa nel Rinascimento, 

nel XVII secolo e anche nel XX secolo dall'Art Nouveau)

 I will always insist on the beauty and quality of vintage fabrics.

Today we buy garments often made with toxic materials and dyes,

or that last very little and have a poor quality,

while we throw away clothes made from beautiful old fabrics,

just because the line is old fashioned.

In this case the fabric pattern made me think of paper marbling,

a technique we all have seen, and that has been practiced by different cultures since ancient times

(by the romans, chinese, indians, japanese, ersians and Turkish.

It was also used in the Renaissance,

then in the seventeenth century and in the twentieth century thanks to Art Nouveau)

Ecological Behaviour Pyramid!

The inverted pyramid of the waste hierarchy principle.

To achieve an acceptable level of sustainability in waste production 

we all should stick this pyramid in our head!

The abnormal amount of waste we produce can not be disposed as it is.

It should be significantly reduced 

by reusing and recycling as much as possible,

And 
before reusing or recycling

we should always try to avoid producing waste.

Since I started sewing, everytime I decide to create a garment I always try to reuse
old clothes or materials before buying them new.
It is more sustainable and eco-friendly, makes me save money 
and stimulates my creativity much, much more...

I won't change the course of events but I'm doing my bit;
each one of us should.
   

Textile industry has highly adverse environmental effects,
and there are 4 major key factors associated with its activity:
water, energy, pollution and use of non-renewable resorces.
Not to mention the big issues emerged in the last years
in matters of exploitation of workers and poor igienical and safety conditions.

Pesticides, CO2 and N2O emissions,
use of petroleum derivatives and harmfull substances (dyeing, product protection, withening), etc.

All of these subsances end up in our environment,
or even worse: directly in our bodies.

Let's hope textile industry keeps on reducing its environmental impact
and improving working conditions and health effects, as it has started to do.

I know it's objectively impossible to eliminate pollution and consumerism
and I confess I myself love fashion.

So we have to accept that is almost impossible to turn back in time
and this is the way we are...


but we can make intelligent decisions 
and reduce damages.

SO... REUSE AND RECYCLE!!!

PIRAMIDE GESTIONE DEI RIFIUTI

Piramide rovesciata per la gestione dei rifiuti 

o principio di gerarchia dei rifiuti.

Per raggiungere un livello di sostenibilità accettabile nella produzione dei rifiuti
dovremmo avere tutti questa piramide fissa in testa .

La quantità abnorme di rifiuti che produciamo non può essere smaltita nella sua totalità, così com'è.

Il volume dei rifiuti dovrebbe essere ridotto significativamente 

riutilizzando e riciclando più che si può.

Ma 
prima ancora di riutilizzare e riciclare 

dovremmo sempre cercare di evitare di produrre rifiuti se possibile.

Da quando ho iniziato a cucire,
